50 years of adventure in Knottingley
Founded by local miners in a reclaimed Victorian quarry in 1972 — the Warwick Adventure Playground. Half a century later, we're still free, still open, and still run by people who know every child by name. COVID didn't close us. Funding cuts didn't beat us. The miners who built this place made it to last — and the community made it unstoppable.

14 qualified play workers and support staff — all DBS-checked, all local. But more importantly, they know the children by name.

Runs our RunRiot sessions on Thursdays. Qualified in therapeutic play. Makes sure every child finds their own way to play — at their own pace.

Registered Charity Trustees
Local volunteers — parents, former users, community leaders. They keep The Addy running as a proper registered charity, accountable to the community it serves.
What facilities do you have?
It started as a reclaimed Victorian quarry. Half a century later, it's grown into something much bigger.
Outdoor adventure playground
Climbing frames, rope swings, den-building areas, and more green space than any indoor soft play. Built by the community, for the community. Every structure is risk-assessed and maintained by qualified play workers.
Indoor hall & meeting room
Our heated indoor space is available to hire for community groups, children's parties, and local events. Tables, chairs, and kitchen access included. All hire income goes straight back into the playground.

Hot drinks, snacks, and proper bacon butties. Open during all play sessions. Parents grab a cuppa while the kids climb trees — everybody wins.
Community garden
A green space for children to grow vegetables, learn about nature, and get their hands dirty. Part of our intergenerational programme — elderly volunteers help tend the garden alongside the kids.
